We are a coordinating halloween costume family. Every year we dress the family up in a theme for Halloween. So far we have been Skeletons, True characters, Ghosts, Fairies, Little Mermaid characters, Zelda characters, and Harry Potter characters. Because I’m a little extra, we also have secondary family halloween costumes that we wear for a photoshoot. I didn’t start when the girls were babies, but this is our third year and I love it! I try to make so with what we have and shop at thrift stores as much as possible.
I started off our Family Halloween Photo tradition easy. This was super simple because we already had black outfits and a broom. Did I have to go to Party City on the way to the session to buy Witch hats? Yes. Worth it. I drew on little stars with eyeliner just for fun and my girls have mean faces so I guess we’re bad witches.
We tried the viral sheet ghosts and while cute, also surprisingly difficult. We could get the glasses to stay on, the kids stepped on their sheets and pulled them off…everyone complained. I still think this is a cute family halloween look, just come with patience.
This family halloween photo plan almost didn’t come together. Nothing arrived in time and I was at Party City again right before our session, not finding what I needed. I don’t know that these are truly Vampire, maybe just Goth family in a cemetery. My girls are obsessed with cemeteries and had never been to one, so this ended up being a really cool experience.
We really wanted to do pumpkin heads, but the pumpkins we chose were too heavy for the kids and the fake ones just look fake. Maybe we’ll try again next year! We also have Victorian ghost family and the Shining on our list.
What do we do with these photos! I add them to our albums and frame a few to hang at Halloween next year. I love an ornate black frame, like this. If you want to do a Halloween session with your family, I’d love to be your photographer. You can get more info here.
