Are you a to-be-mom wondering when’s the best time to book and take those gorgeous maternity photos? Well, you’re in luck! As a professional maternity photographer in Atlanta, GA, I’m here to make your journey to capture this incredible time in your life, super easy, and I’m spilling all the details!
The sweet spot for maternity photos is usually between 28 and 34 weeks. Let me share with you why. By this time, your bump will be round and wonderful. It will be pronounced, but you’ll not be in the “get-this-baby-out-now” phase. Trust me, you’ll thank yourself for scheduling before the swollen ankles and waddling set in!
But every pregnancy is unique. If you’re expecting multiples, it’s better to schedule earlier, as you’ll likely show sooner. And if this isn’t your first baby? Your bump might pop earlier too, so consider booking closer to the 28-week mark.
Now, when should you actually book your photographer? The answer is simple: around 12 weeks, at the start of your second trimester. Don’t wait. Good photographers book up fast, especially during popular seasons like fall.
Reaching out early gives you plenty of time to secure your preferred date and time. Plus, it’s one less thing to worry about as you prepare for your little one’s arrival. And pregnancy brain is real—booking early means one less thing to remember later!
If you’ve hit 35 weeks and are panicking because you haven’t booked yet, take a deep breath. It’s not too late! While it might be a bit more challenging to move around, we can still capture some beautiful moments. We’ll just need to get creative with poses and locations.
Living in Atlanta, we’re blessed with highs and lows. But each season offers its own unique charm for maternity photos, and I always love a studio session!
Spring: Fresh blooms and soft colors. Late March – May are usually warm enough to be outdoors
Summer: Lush greenery and golden sunsets (just be prepared for some heat!)
Fall: Gorgeous foliage and cozy vibes
Once you’ve booked your session, it’s time for the fun part—planning your outfit! I already have a collection of beautiful dresses, so you have nothing to worry about. But if you want to try your own dress, here are some quick tips:
At the end of the day, the “perfect” time for maternity photos is when you feel ready to share the news. But remember:
These photos are your memories of this incredible journey you’re on. So book early, prepare well, and then relax and enjoy the experience. Trust me, you’ll cherish these images for years to come!
