A guide for Atlanta moms-to-be
As you start this journey, you’re likely dreaming of those first days with your little one, picking out the perfect nursery decor, and marveling over how tiny the clothes are. Capturing these beautiful and fleeting moments through newborn photography is a gift you’ll enjoy always. But when to book your newborn photo session?
Those tiny fingers, those sleepy yawns, that brand-new baby smell – it’s a phase that passes in the blink of an eye. As an Atlanta newborn photographer, I’ve learned that the sweet spot for scheduling these sessions is typically between 5 to 10 days after birth. During this window, your baby is still in that wonderfully sleepy, curled-up state that makes for absolutely adorable photos. For that to happen and ensure availability, you should book your newborn session when you are in your second trimester.
“But my due date is months away! Isn’t it too soon to think about newborn photos?” Here’s why your second trimester is the perfect time to secure your newborn session.
When you reach out during your second trimester, we’ll start by having a warm, friendly chat about your hopes for the session. I’ll guide you through the process, answering any questions you might have. Together, we’ll decide on a tentative date based on your due date, knowing that babies often have their own schedules!
As your due date approaches, we’ll stay in touch and I’ll send you emails to make sure you’re ready for our session. Once your little one arrives (congratulations!), we’ll book the exact day for your session, aiming for that 5-10 day window when your baby is at their most photogenic. If that feels too soon, don’t worry! Babies stay in the newborn stage for a few weeks, they are just more awake and alert after those 10 days.
Once you’ve booked, you can relax knowing that the hard part is done. I’ll provide you with all the information you need to prepare for your session. From what to do (hint: not much!) to how to dress, I’ve got you covered. I have everything we need to create stunning, heartwarming portraits of your new addition in your home. We usually use the nursery, main bedroom, and living room, but any room with great light is perfect (and I have lighting if we need it).
As a mom myself, I understand that the newborn phase can be overwhelming. That’s why I’ve designed my newborn sessions to be as relaxing and enjoyable as possible. From the moment we’ll meet, you’ll feel at ease. Comfortable seating and a calm environment await you. All you need to do is snuggle your baby and soak in the love – I’ll take care of the rest.
If you’re expecting and dreaming of beautiful newborn portraits, don’t wait to reach out. It’s never too early to book your newborn photos. Let’s connect during your second trimester and start planning for these once-in-a-lifetime photos.
